General Information/Job Summary
Prepare and take ownership for cost estimating of bids and project proposals, identifying risk, opportunities, and maintaining a winning strategy.
Job
Responsibilities
-
Prepare detailed estimates in accordance with the scope of work, blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare quantity take-offs, for foundations, structural steel, pipe, and process equipment.

Apply work hour unit rates for each item in the estimate to generate the overall direct work hours.

Understand the construction equipment requirements.

Understand the temporary facilities requirement and field non-manual staffing requirements.

Assist in the solicitation of quotes from material and equipment suppliers, subcontractors, and specified manufacturers.

Distribute and maintain control of bid documents.

Identify special Client or project requirements for weather protection, cranes, hoists, HES requirements and services.

Analyze project location and productivity associated with the location.

Reviews labor costs and applicable licensing requirements.

Ensure that all bid forms are completed and properly executed.

Facilitate bid review meetings with Business Unit Management, estimating group, and/or business line management to finalize bid.

Coordinate with other departments during the bid process on proposals.
Job Qualifications
-
5+ years’ experience with industrial civil, structural steel, process equipment and piping estimating
-
Working knowledge of estimating software; MC2 a plus
-
Competitive bid experience in Petro-chemical, power, gas processing, refining and other heavy industrial facilities.

Construction field experience highly preferred.

Advanced knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.

Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities.

Knowledge of estimating Best Practices.

Occasional travel required.

Follow safety regulations while on jobsite visits including the wearing of proper attire, safety gear, protective hat, safety glasses and shoes as required.

Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Overtime may be required to meet work demands
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, or sit 1/3 to 2/3’s of the scheduled work shift

Office environment – indoor with low to moderate levels of noise

Read engineering blueprints and reduced size black and white drawings, specifications, fine print, reports, schedules, estimates and other documents in either hard copy or on computer monitor.

Required on occasion to observe construction progress outdoors by walking or driving to or on the site over rough or uneven terrain, which may be dusty, muddy, wet and noisy.
