EV Charging Maintenance Engineer

ABOUT ECO POWER ENERGY

Eco Power Energy Limited (EPE) is a Tier 1 EV charging infrastructure partner and Independent Connection Provider (ICP), delivering grid connections, on-street EV charging infrastructure, and battery energy storage systems across the UK. We hold NERS accreditation through Lloyd's Register, NICEIC certification, and ISO 9001 quality accreditation.

We work with the UK's leading Charge Point Operators (CPOs) — And we are building best-in-class field maintenance capability across the Midlands. This is an exciting time to join; you will be one of our first maintenance engineers on the ground and a key part of the team that shapes how EPE delivers O&M at scale.

JOB PURPOSE

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance on EV charging equipment across the Midlands, working on behalf of EPE's CPO clients to keep chargers safe, compliant, and operational. You will be the face of EPE on site — taking pride in the quality of your work, responding quickly to faults, and making sure every charger you touch is left in the best possible condition.

Day to day you will complete EICR inspections, respond to reactive fault callouts, carry out remedial works, and maintain accurate job records. You will be supported by the Maintenance Manager and work within a clear scheduling and SLA framework, with a bonus scheme that rewards strong reactive response performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Planned Maintenance & EICR Inspections

  • Carry out Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) on EV charging equipment and associated electrical infrastructure to BS 7671 standards.
  • Complete all associated certification, condition codes, and recommendations accurately and promptly using EPE's digital job management system.
  • Follow planned maintenance schedules issued by the Maintenance Manager, working efficiently across batched postcode runs.
  • Identify and report defects, deterioration, or non-compliant installations, raising remedial works where required.

Reactive Maintenance & Fault Response

  • Respond to reactive fault callouts within contracted SLA windows (P1–P4 priority tiers) across your allocated patch.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and connectivity faults on EV charge points, including single and dual-port AC units and DC rapid chargers.
  • Carry out safe isolation, component replacement, and re-commissioning in line with manufacturer specifications and EPE procedures.
  • Communicate clearly with the Maintenance Manager and CPO client teams on fault status, ETA, and resolution.
  • Complete job sheets and photographic evidence for every reactive visit, closing jobs in the system on the same day.

Remedial Works

  • Complete remedial works arising from EICR inspections or reactive visits, including cable repairs, enclosure replacement, earthing corrections, and associated civil make-good.
  • Procure materials through EPE's approved supply chain, managing van stock levels to minimise return visits.
  • Escalate complex or high-voltage faults to the Maintenance Manager or specialist ICP team promptly.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Work at all times in accordance with EPE RAMS, BS 7671, and site-specific CPO requirements.
  • Complete daily vehicle checks, maintain a tidy and organised company van, and report any defects promptly.
  • Attend toolbox talks, briefings, and training sessions as required by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Hold and maintain a current ECS card and all required accreditations; notify the Maintenance Manager immediately of any changes to certification status.
  • Wear full EPE company uniform at all times when on site or attending client premises.

Administration & Reporting

  • Log all jobs, inspections, and outcomes accurately in EPE's field management system on the day of work.
  • Maintain up-to-date van stock records and submit replenishment requests in a timely manner.
  • Submit weekly timesheets and expense claims in accordance with EPE's payroll deadlines.
  • Report near misses, incidents, or site access issues to the Maintenance Manager on the same day.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Qualified electrician — 18th Edition BS 7671 (City & Guilds 2382 or equivalent).
  • ECS Gold Card (Electrician) as a minimum.
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification field experience in an electrical maintenance or installation environment.
  • Strong fault-finding skills — able to diagnose faults systematically and work independently without on-site supervision.
  • Comfortable with reactive on-call requirements and occasional out-of-hours response.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence — essential for this role.
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated — this is a home-start, field-based role requiring personal discipline.
  • Good written communication skills for accurate job sheet completion and digital reporting.

Desirable

  • Direct experience working on EV charging equipment (any CPO, manufacturer, or O&M provider).
  • 2391 Inspection & Testing (or equivalent) — able to independently produce and certify EICRs.
  • EV charging installation or commissioning experience (OZEV/NICEIC EV or equivalent).
  • Lantra Level 2 or 3 Certs in highway electrical work
  • Experience using field service management or job scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of OCPP protocols or CPO network monitoring tools.
