Job Overview
The Night Dispatcher is responsible for managing and controlling overnight freight operations for a B1 fleet. This role ensures on-time execution, efficient border operations, driver compliance, and immediate resolution of operational issues to maintain service performance.
Core Responsibilities
Fleet & Load Operations
- Monitor active loads, border crossings, deliveries, and transfer operations
- Maintain visibility of trucks, trailers, driver availability (PTA), and HOS status
- Ensure on-time pickups, deliveries, and execution of import/export crossings
- Prevent delays, missed loads, and operational disruptions
Driver & Operational Support
- Coordinate directly with drivers and CSR teams regarding delays, ETAs, and service risks
- Monitor driver compliance with HOS and U.S. transportation regulations
- Control fleet availability and maintain accurate operational reporting
Issue Resolution & Recovery
- Respond immediately to delays, breakdowns, and operational incidents
- Execute recovery solutions to protect service performance
- Escalate critical issues and ensure freight continues moving without interruption
Operational & Financial Control
- Monitor EFS advances and maintain operational oversight throughout the shift
- Optimize freight flow, driver utilization, and operational timing
- Maintain full control of overnight operations and service execution
Shift Handoff & Reporting
Prepare end-of-shift reports covering:
- Delays and operational risks
- Completed and pending crossings
- Breakdown status
- Priorities for day shift operations
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of dispatch or logistics experience
- Experience in high-volume and cross-border operations preferred
- Knowledge of HOS, DOT regulations, and fleet coordination
- Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure with a high sense of urgency and accountability
