Job Summary

Security Officers provide personal safety, physical security of employees, patrons, and property of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts campus. Event Security Officers actively monitor and respond to activity throughout the venue, including conducting visual inspections of buildings, bags, and packages. In addition to maintaining a safe and secure environment, all Event Security Officers play a vital role in delivering exceptional guest service to our patrons, donors, and colleagues. This position requires a strong commitment to public safety, professionalism, and creating a welcoming experience for all who visit Segerstrom Center for the Arts.


Job Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned or changed at the discretion of management.

  • Conduct bag check and patron screenings with the use of magnetometer and hand wands to prevent prohibited items from entering the facility.
  • Must be able to observe potential verbal and non-verbal threats.
  • Must be able to recognize potential impairment of patrons.
  • Patrol and inspect the facility and report security and general maintenance problems to Shift Supervisor.
  • Patrol assigned areas. Check for suspicious or dangerous occurrences.
  • Enforce parking regulations.
  • Use radio communication to provide information to other Event and Stage Door Officers.
  • Monitor guest activities at Broadway Shows, weddings, concerts, outdoor events, etc.
  • Follow and enforce established policies and procedures.
  • Welcome and greet guest to the Center by providing exceptional guest service to patrons, donors, and colleagues.
  • Abide by the Security Department uniform and grooming standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High School diploma or equivalent desired but not required.
  • Previous event security or physical security experience is preferred, but not required.
  • 0-2 years of experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Candidate subject to clearance of a background check consistent with security industry standards.

  • Ability to evaluate situations, follow guidance and training to exhibit good judgment in resolving issues.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Exercise alertness and be able to act quickly, calmly, as trained, and with good judgment in an emergency.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Must have basic knowledge of computers to operate the scheduling system.
  • Must be able to operate security related equipment (two-way radio, magnetometer, handheld metal detectors, etc)

Physical Demands

  • Required to walk and stand throughout a standard and sometimes prolonged shift, including walking across the campus and accessing the buildings which will also include going up and down several flights of stairs.
  • Required to sit at a posted position periodically.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in both verbal communications orally, by use of 2-way radios and telephones, as well as in written communications and reports.
  • Must also be able to reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch.
  • May be required to periodically lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Must have good vision to include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus while maneuvering through both light and dark spaces and in stairways.

Work Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, the desk area well-lit and room temperature controlled while in the office.
  • When in event spaces, the noise levels can be very loud, work areas subject to low and high intensity lighting levels, and varying degrees of temperature.


Compensation

  • Starting rate of pay is $20.00/hour; Part-Time, Non-Exempt.
  • 403B with match after probationary period.
  • Time off (Sick)
