Position Summary
The Events & Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, executing, and
evaluating events and communication strategies that promote Goodwill Industries of
Mississippi’s mission and brand. This position will coordinate all organizational events,
public relations efforts, and digital and traditional communication channels to enhance
community engagement, donor relations, and public awareness. This role works closely
with internal departments and external partners to ensure brand consistency,
effective messaging, and successful event execution across all platforms and audiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute a wide range of events, including fundraising galas,
community outreach initiatives, volunteer recognition, and job fairs.
- Manage all event logistics such as timelines, budgets, venues, contracts, vendors,
volunteers, and equipment needs.
- Partner with the VP of Marketing & HR to develop and manage event budgets,
sponsorship opportunities, and marketing plans.
- Develop communication materials including press releases, newsletters, media
advisories, social media content, and website updates.
- Manage social media platforms and email marketing campaigns to increase
engagement and visibility.
- Coordinate with external vendors for photography, videography, design, and
promotional materials.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent branding and messaging across
all platforms.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with sponsors, media outlets, community
partners, and volunteers.
- Track, measure, and report event and communications performance metrics,
including attendance, engagement, and ROI.
- Represent Goodwill Industries of Mississippi at community events and speaking
engagements.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to company policies
regarding communication and data sharing.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Event
Management, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in event planning, marketing, or communications
(nonprofit experience preferred).
- Experience in media relations, sponsorship coordination, and content creation is
highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Creative thinker with the ability to design and execute engaging campaigns.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, email marketing software, content
management systems, and social media platforms.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Team-oriented, adaptable, and professional under pressure.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules.

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Open availability and willingness to travel within the state.

- Ability to pass alcohol/drug screenings and criminal background checks.
Physical Requirements
- Works in an environment with occasional high stress and tight deadlines.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift event materials up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally sits for extended periods when performing computer-based tasks.
- Routinely drives to and from event locations and community sites.
Travel
Frequent travel within Mississippi required. May travel to other locations for events,
meetings, conferences, or training.
