Key Responsibilities (with Carpentry Emphasis):
- Scenic Construction & Fabrication Oversight:
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of all scenic elements, stage sets, exhibition stands, props, and custom fabrication for events.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and design specifications into practical construction plans.
- Source, select, and manage materials (wood, metal, composites) for all fabrication needs, ensuring quality and cost-efficiency.
- Direct and supervise in-house carpentry teams, freelance carpenters, and external fabrication workshops, ensuring adherence to timelines, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Conduct hands-on work or provide expert guidance during the construction, assembly, installation, and dismantling of event structures and scenic pieces.
- Technical Integration & Feasibility:
- Collaborate closely with lighting, audio, video, and rigging teams to ensure seamless integration of technical elements within constructed sets and structures.
- Assess the feasibility of designs from a construction standpoint, identifying potential challenges early and proposing practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Apply knowledge of structural integrity and load-bearing capacities to ensure the safety and stability of all built elements.
- Budget & Resource Management:
- Develop detailed cost estimates for fabrication, materials, labor, and third-party services related to scenic and structural builds.
- Manage production budgets effectively, seeking efficiencies in material use and construction methods.
- Oversee the procurement and maintenance of carpentry tools and workshop equipment.
- On-Site Execution & Troubleshooting:
- Lead the on-site build, load-in, and load-out processes for all scenic and structural components.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical or construction-related issues during setup and live events, often under high pressure.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all construction and fabrication processes comply with health, safety, and industry regulations (e.g., fire codes, structural safety).
- Conduct risk assessments specific to temporary structures and scenic elements.
- Interdepartmental Coordination:
- Liaise effectively with creative directors, designers, marketing teams, clients, and venue management to translate artistic visions into practical builds.
- Provide expert advice on materials, construction methods, and technical limitations.
Key Skills and Qualifications (with Carpentry Emphasis):
- Extensive Carpentry/Fabrication Experience: Proven hands-on background (e.g., Master Carpenter, Scenic Carpenter, Exhibit Fabricator) with a strong understanding of various woodworking techniques, materials, and tools.
