We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Eviction Attorney to join our property management team in Chicago navigating complex landlord-tenant laws. We have a portfolio of 20 rental units covering both North, South and West side neighborhoods. Responsibilities
- Manage eviction proceedings from initial filings through trial and post-judgment processes (Most cases do not go to trial/post-judgment)
- Conduct thorough legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal databases to support case strategies
- Draft pleadings, motions, notices, and legal correspondence with precision and clarity
- Negotiate with opposing counsel and landlords to resolve disputes amicably when possible
- Advise clients on their rights, options, and potential outcomes related to eviction cases
- Prepare for court appearances by organizing case files, evidence, and relevant documentation
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with all procedural requirements and deadlines
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the Illinois State Bar or eligibility for admission
- Proven experience in landlord-tenant law, litigation, or related legal fields such as family law or estate planning is highly desirable
- Strong research skills utilizing Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents
- Demonstrated negotiation skills to facilitate settlements or favorable resolutions
- Knowledge of Illinois landlord-tenant statutes, eviction procedures, and court practices in Chicago
- Familiarity with environmental law, tribal law & regulations, securities law, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, immigration law, estate planning or other specialized areas is a plus but not required
- Legal administrative experience including managing case files and maintaining detailed records
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $100.00 - $125.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 5 per week
