About the Role The Excavation Foreman / CDL A Driver is a hands-on leadership role combining skilled equipment operation with crew supervision and job planning. You’ll lead a team of operators and laborers on residential and small commercial sites, keeping projects on schedule, on budget, and above all — safe. You’ll be the first set of eyes on underground conditions, pipe issues, and site challenges, and you’ll be expected to solve problems before they become delays.
What You'll Do
- Lead and supervise daily crew operations
- Plan job schedules and coordinate material needs
- Operate excavators and heavy equipment on site
- Identify excavation hazards, soil issues, and underground utility conflicts
- Inspect and assess exposed existing pipe for damage, misalignment, or defects
- Document pipe deficiencies and communicate corrective actions to project management
- Ensure OSHA trench safety compliance — shoring, sloping, and benching
- Transport equipment via CDL Class A vehicle
- Operate roll-off dumpster trucks and coordinate landfill disposal
- Conduct daily safety briefings (toolbox talks)
- Maintain accurate daily field reports and compliance logs
- Coordinate directly with project managers and other trades
Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A license (required) with 2+ years of experience
- 5+ years operating excavators and heavy equipment
- 2+ years in a foreman, lead, or supervisory field role
- Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications
- Experience identifying pipe defects, grade issues, and utility conflicts
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and DOL regulations
- Proven ability to plan schedules and coordinate crew and materials
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience operating roll-off (dumpster) trucks preferred
Compensation & Benefits
- $27.00 – $32.00 per hour based on experience
- Full-time, consistent hours
