Excavation Foreman and CDL A Driver

About the Role The Excavation Foreman / CDL A Driver is a hands-on leadership role combining skilled equipment operation with crew supervision and job planning. You’ll lead a team of operators and laborers on residential and small commercial sites, keeping projects on schedule, on budget, and above all — safe. You’ll be the first set of eyes on underground conditions, pipe issues, and site challenges, and you’ll be expected to solve problems before they become delays.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and supervise daily crew operations
  • Plan job schedules and coordinate material needs
  • Operate excavators and heavy equipment on site
  • Identify excavation hazards, soil issues, and underground utility conflicts
  • Inspect and assess exposed existing pipe for damage, misalignment, or defects
  • Document pipe deficiencies and communicate corrective actions to project management
  • Ensure OSHA trench safety compliance — shoring, sloping, and benching
  • Transport equipment via CDL Class A vehicle
  • Operate roll-off dumpster trucks and coordinate landfill disposal
  • Conduct daily safety briefings (toolbox talks)
  • Maintain accurate daily field reports and compliance logs
  • Coordinate directly with project managers and other trades

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class A license (required) with 2+ years of experience
  • 5+ years operating excavators and heavy equipment
  • 2+ years in a foreman, lead, or supervisory field role
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications
  • Experience identifying pipe defects, grade issues, and utility conflicts
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and DOL regulations
  • Proven ability to plan schedules and coordinate crew and materials
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience operating roll-off (dumpster) trucks preferred

Compensation & Benefits

  • $27.00 – $32.00 per hour based on experience
  • Full-time, consistent hours
