Executive Communication Specialist 1

BLOC Resources is seeking a highly skilled Executive Communications Specialist 1 to support senior leadership within a large-scale, regulated utility environment. This role will directly support executives within Southern Company and/or its operating companies, contributing to strategic messaging tied to grid modernization, transmission projects, infrastructure investments, and operational excellence initiatives.

This individual will play a critical role in ensuring executive communications are clear, consistent, and aligned with enterprise priorities across a complex, matrixed organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver executive-level communications including speeches, leadership messaging, board-level presentations, talking points, and internal announcements
  • Partner directly with senior leaders (VPs, SVPs, and executive leadership) to align messaging with strategic utility initiatives, including transmission, distribution, and capital projects
  • Translate technical and operational content (engineering, grid operations, regulatory updates) into clear, concise, and compelling communications
  • Support communication efforts tied to major infrastructure and transmission projects, ensuring alignment across stakeholders
  • Lead and manage multiple communication workstreams simultaneously, ensuring on-time and high-quality delivery
  • Assist in planning and execution of executive events, leadership meetings, town halls, and large-scale internal initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, regulatory, external affairs, and corporate communications
  • Conduct research and synthesize information to support executive storytelling and decision-making materials
  • Develop high-impact presentations (PowerPoint) for executive audiences, including operational updates and strategic briefings
  • Support multimedia communications including video messaging, internal campaigns, and visual storytelling assets
  • Ensure consistency in brand voice, messaging, and corporate standards across all deliverables

Technical Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

  • Proven experience in executive communications within a corporate or utility environment
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex information
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong understanding of utility operations, transmission/distribution systems, or infrastructure projects (preferred)
  • Experience working in a highly regulated, matrixed organization
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
  • Experience supporting executive presentations, board materials, and leadership communications
  • Familiarity with multimedia tools (video editing, graphics, internal comms platforms) is a plus
  • High attention to detail, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential information

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years of experience in executive communications, corporate communications, or strategic communications
  • Experience supporting senior leadership (CEO, SVP, VP-level)
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale communication projects or programs
  • Experience working across cross-functional teams in corporate or enterprise environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting utility companies or energy sector organizations (e.g., Southern Company or similar)
  • Experience with transmission, distribution, or engineering-related communications
  • Background in infrastructure, energy, or regulated industries
  • Experience supporting large-scale capital projects or operational initiatives
  • Familiarity with internal systems and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, or enterprise communication platforms

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer
  • Ability to attend meetings (virtual and onsite as required)
  • Occasional travel may be required for executive meetings or project support

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Rate: $24.00 – $26.00/hour
