Executive Director

The Executive Director leads fundraising, board development, operations, finances, school and community programs, grants, and communications. GrowingGreat is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission to empower children to make healthy food choices through hands-on science and garden education.

The Director reports to the Board of Directors, supervises a team of 1 full-time and 3 part-time educators and works with 5 part-time consultants. All staff work remotely when not teaching at Los Angeles school sites.

We believe every community should have access to fresh produce and all children should experience the joy of growing fruits and vegetables in their own garden. GrowingGreat educators teach PreK-12th grade hands-on programs at 23 sites throughout Greater Los Angeles, community events and conferences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fundraising (50%): Build donor relationships, lead fundraising activities and events, write grant proposals, prepare impact reports, and support board engagement.
  • Program & Staff Leadership (25%): Oversee educational programs aligned with GrowingGreat’s core values; recruit, hire, train, and supervise educators, and lead strategic planning.
  • Operations & Financial Management (15%): Maintain financial controls, oversee program budgets, manage bookkeeping consultants, and support annual Form 990 preparation.
  • Communications (10%): Promote GrowingGreat’s mission, manage donor and partner communications, oversee social media, and produce annual reports and newsletters.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3 years of nonprofit fundraising experience; grant writing experience required
  • Demonstrated success raising ~$100K/year through individual donations and ~$300K/year through grants and sponsorships
  • Passion for garden, nutrition, and science education and commitment to GrowingGreat’s mission
  • Strong leadership, communication, grant writing, and budget management skills
  • Knowledge of the Los Angeles philanthropic, education, and nonprofit community

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include: paid vacation (8 hrs/month), 2 weeks paid holiday shutdown, paid sick leave (8 hrs/month), 401(k) plan, and 12 paid holidays. Position requires a personal vehicle for local travel (mileage reimbursed at Federal Standard Rate).

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
