POSITION SUMMARY:
Within a defined geographic region of the Y in Central Maryland, the Executive Director of Annual Giving is responsible for leveraging the Y’s membership base in support of philanthropy and social impact.
Specifically, the Executive Director of Annual Giving is responsible for:
- Management of “Top Gifts” donors and prospects, typically with a giving potential of $1,000 - $25,000, as a primary campaigner and/or as a secondary campaigner supporting Y volunteer leaders, Y Family Center Executive Directors, and other Y senior leadership;
- Support of Community Leadership Boards (CLB), coordinating with Y Family Center leadership to develop and implement standard operating procedures, board orientations and training, fundraising, and other volunteer engagement activities of the CLBs (which are regional advisory boards) operating within the defined geographic region;
- Support for Mission in Action tours, coordinating with Y Family Center leadership to design, recruit, and implement mission-driven site-based tours of the Y’s work in action in the assigned geographic regions.
The Executive Director of Annual Giving is an integral member of the Y’s Development team and works closely with Y Family Center and Social Responsibility operational leadership, as well as Marketing. Focusing on “member-donors” with a capacity for increased giving, the Director of Annual Giving is expected to raise at least $500,000 annually as a primary or secondary campaigner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Fundraising
- In coordination with the Development Team and Y Family Center leadership, establish regional Annual Giving goals and strategy;
- Oversee, in partnership with Y Family Center leadership, CLB board giving;
- Direct, in collaboration with Y Family Center leadership, cultivation, and solicitation of “Top Gifts” donors and prospects (identified by wealth screens, “super-users” and Listen 360 reviews, and other screening methods);
- Support Y Family Center associates in the design and implementation of center-based fundraising activities, specifically around “Rally for the Y,” “Send a Kid to Camp,” “Turkey Trot,” and “End of Year” annual giving efforts.
Training
- Provide fundraising training to Y associates and board volunteers involved with soliciting donors to the Y’s annual giving campaigns;
- Provide orientation and support with Y Family Center Executive Directors for Community Leadership Board engagement.
Outreach
- Oversee regional Mission in Action tours;
- Support, in collaboration with Y Family Center leadership, CLB recruitment and engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree required.
EXPERIENCE
- Three or more years of fundraising, business development, and/or community organizing experience;
- Experience in a Y or other membership-based organization is preferred (but not required).
SKILLS
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
- Ability to collaborate and build teams and to work individually and self-motivated;
- Capacity to absorb program details and compose a story narrative case for giving;
- Comfort with asking potential donors for their financial support
- Conversant with Google and Microsoft Office suites;
- Conversant with Customer Relationship Management software such as Salesforce or Raisers Edge and with ‘moves management’ fundraising best practices.

It emphasizes treating youth with respect and fairness, avoiding inappropriate physical or verbal interactions, and adhering to established standards of affection. The policy strictly prohibits any form of abuse, bullying, or harassment and mandates the reporting of suspected mistreatment. Additionally, associates and volunteers must complete training on child abuse prevention and comply with legal reporting requirements to safeguard youth.
