About Pollak Tutors
Pollak Tutors has been helping middle and high school students succeed academically and on standardized tests for over a decade. We're not a franchise, chain, or test-prep factory. We are a small, professional practice built on a simple belief: every student is capable of doing the work — and it's our job to help them believe that.
Our office in New Providence, NJ is a place students actually want to come. It's calm, professional, and designed to make learning feel like something worth taking seriously. The same goes for the people who work here.
How We Work
At Pollak Tutors, a great session doesn't look like a tutor talking at a student. It looks like a tutor asking the right questions until a student figures something out for themselves. We use a Socratic approach: the student does most of the talking, the tutor does most of the listening, and learning happens through guided discussion.
When a student gets something wrong, we aren’t afraid to say so, and then we use that moment to build understanding. Our best coaches are confident and skilled at knowing how to be direct without being discouraging, and how to hold a high standard while helping students feel capable of meeting it.
We give realistic advice to students and families and have built our reputation on results and honesty, not on telling people what theywant to hear.
About This Role
Executive function coaches at Pollak Tutors work 1:1 with students who struggle with organization, time management, task initiation, prioritization, and managing the demands of a challenging academic workload. Sessions are individualized to target specific areas of weakness, and take place after school/ evenings and weekends during the school year. The Executive function coach will review grades, plan out the upcoming week, and provide strategies to help students engage with their schoolwork, and realize their true potential.
This position offers a flexible schedule that can grow with you. Compensation is competitive and hourly. We reward coaches who invest in their students and who contribute to the growth of the business.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for people who take education seriously, have strong opinions about how students learn best, and aren't afraid to share them. Specifically:
Who Thrives Here
Our best coaches tend to be former or current special education teachers who want more autonomy over how they work; graduate students in education or psychology who are building their practice; or career educators who are drawn to a culture of high expectations and real results.
What they have in common: they care deeply about students; they push back when something isn't working; and they take professional pride in what they do.
If you're looking for a place to clock hours and follow a script, this is not the right fit. If you want to do meaningful work with students who need someone to believe in them and challenge them at the same time, we'd like to talk.
How to Apply
Send a resume and cover letter to EF@pollaktutors.com. Applications without both will not be considered. In your cover letter, tell us about a student you worked with who was struggling — and what you did about it.
