Exemptions Specialist

This position supports a variety of Customer Service functions including, but not limited to, providing information, assisting walk-in or telephone customers, and referring taxpayers to other office personnel for further information. Primary purpose of the position is to assist the public in reviewing records, securing information that pertains to Exemptions, Portability/Save Our Homes cap and other Property Appraiser Office functions. Assignments constantly involve contact with clients, customers, and vendors in carrying out essential functions. Reports to either the Public Service and Exemptions Manager or Assistant Manager, dependent upon location.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Duties/tasks are standardized. Answers general questions and resolves routine problems.
  • Escalates complex issues to a higher level.
  • Completes Exemptions applications based on customer-based interviews and web-based applications
  • Posts approved Exemptions
  • Processes address changes
  • Escalates fraud claims and other inquiry-based reviews to Investigations
  • Copying, filing, typing, data entry
  • Answering telephones
  • Prepares routine correspondence/mailings
  • Proofing and editing
  • Compiling and logging information
  • Preserves records/files in accordance with public record law
  • Routine problem solving
  • Internal Customer Service
  • Information sharing
  • Adaptability: accepts change/shows flexibility/takes direction
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION

  • 1 to 2 years business related Customer Service experience or exposure
  • Associates degree from an accredited college/university a plus
  • Paralegal or title experience a plus
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus
  • Varying combinations of education and experience will satisfy the required minimums
  • Valid Florida driver license
