Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of dental assisting procedures, with specialized training in expanded functions that allow for greater responsibility in patient care. Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric treatments, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency.
- Perform chairside assisting duties such as taking vital signs, medical imaging, and preparing patients for treatment.
- Manage and update electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Take and develop dental X-rays while adhering to aseptic techniques and radiation safety standards.
- Operate advanced dental technology including 3D scanners and other imaging devices to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Provide patient education on oral health care, post-treatment instructions, and preventive practices tailored for pediatric and general dentistry patients.
- Support infection control protocols by sterilizing instruments, maintaining a clean clinical environment, and following OSHA guidelines.
- Collaborate with the dental team on treatment planning, documentation using medical coding systems, and ensuring seamless patient flow from reception to discharge.
Requirements
- Certified Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) credential with proven experience in general dentistry; experience in pediatric dentistry is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in dental assisting software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Ability to accurately take X-rays and operate medical imaging equipment.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics, along with dental receptionist duties when needed.
- Knowledge of pediatric-specific procedures and the ability to handle diverse patient needs with professionalism and compassion.
