Duties

  • Perform expanded functions such as coronal polishing, temporary restorations, place composite restorations, and other delegated clinical procedures under the supervision of the dentist
  • Assist with a variety of dental treatments including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry procedures
  • Operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging tools while adhering to safety protocols
  • Take digital X-rays, ensuring accurate positioning and image quality for diagnosis
  • Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic to document patient information accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain strict infection control standards using aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff
  • Provide chairside assistance during procedures with proficiency in dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and four-handed dentistry techniques
  • Monitor vital signs and assist with medical documentation for patients requiring medical clearance or special care
  • Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, confirming patient visits, and managing patient flow seamlessly

Qualifications

  • Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification or license required
  • Proven experience working in a general dentistry or pediatric dentistry setting with familiarity in dental assisting procedures
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic technique
  • Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; experience with medical coding and medical records management is a plus
  • Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely and effectively; certification in radiography preferred
  • Excellent communication skills to interact confidently with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and documentation related to medical imaging and health records
