Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA)

Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. In this vital role, you will perform advanced chairside procedures, assist with complex dental treatments, and ensure the highest standards of patient care and infection control. Your expertise will help deliver efficient, comprehensive dental services in a fast-paced environment, supporting both general and specialized dentistry practices. Duties

  • Perform expanded functions such as coronal polishing, placement of temporary crowns, and other delegated procedures in accordance with state regulations and clinic policies
  • Assist dentists during various procedures including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments
  • Take and develop dental X-rays, including digital imaging and 3D scans, ensuring proper technique and patient safety
  • Manage medical documentation by accurately updating electronic medical records (EMR systems) like Eaglesoft or Dentrix while maintaining HIPAA compliance
  • Provide chairside assistance using aseptic techniques, ensuring a sterile environment for all procedures
  • Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort throughout treatment sessions
  • Support infection control protocols by sterilizing instruments, managing medical waste, and maintaining a clean clinical environment
  • Educate patients on post-treatment care and dental health best practices in a friendly, professional manner
  • Collaborate with the dental team to ensure smooth clinic operations, including assisting the dental receptionist with patient flow when needed
  • Utilize medical terminology accurately for documentation and communication within medical records and coding systems

Requirements

  • Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification or license as required by state law
  • Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with general dentistry and pediatric dentistry preferred
  • Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with Epic is a plus
  • Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic technique, anatomy, and dental terminology
  • Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging tools safely and effectively
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy and data security
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics
  • Ability to perform four-handed dentistry efficiently to maximize productivity during procedures
  • Familiarity with medical coding for dental procedures and documentation practices

Pay: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour
