Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including prosthodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, and other specialty treatments, ensuring smooth workflow and patient comfort
- Perform expanded functions such as coronal polishing, temporary restorations, and placement of sealants or composite fillings in accordance with state regulations and clinic protocols
- Take and develop high-quality dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans, ensuring proper technique and patient safety
- Manage medical documentation by accurately recording treatment details, updating medical records, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Support infection control practices by maintaining aseptic techniques, sterilizing instruments, and adhering to strict sterilization protocols
- Operate electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix to document patient information efficiently and accurately
- Monitor vital signs and assist with medical imaging or assessments for pediatric patients or medically compromised individuals
- Collaborate seamlessly with the dental team in four-handed dentistry to optimize efficiency and patient care quality
- Serve as a dental receptionist when needed by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and providing excellent customer service
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft for managing medical records and documentation
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient confidentiality and data security
- Experience with dental radiography including X-ray techniques and 3D scanner operation for comprehensive diagnostics
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices and procedures tailored to children’s needs
- Expertise in chairside assisting with a focus on aseptic technique, infection control, and anatomy knowledge
- Ability to perform advanced dental procedures within the scope of EFDA responsibilities in general dentistry and specialty areas like prosthodontics or endodontics
- Understanding of medical terminology, medical coding, and documentation standards for accurate record keeping
- Excellent communication skills for explaining procedures to patients of all ages and backgrounds
- Knowledge of dental assisting best practices including vital signs monitoring, medical imaging, and handling dental equipment
