Duties
- Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, utilizing advanced chairside techniques.
- Perform expanded functions such as placing temporary crowns, coronal polishing, and applying sealants under dentist supervision.
- Manage patient flow efficiently by preparing treatment areas, taking vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort throughout procedures.
- Operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners to capture accurate diagnostic images while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation and records using EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; ensure compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Support infection control protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and maintaining sterilization of instruments and operatory areas.
- Collaborate seamlessly with the dental team in four-handed dentistry setups to optimize efficiency and patient care quality.
- Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and assisting with dental receptionist duties when needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with proficiency in dental assisting procedures, including chairside assisting and medical terminology.
- Certification or licensing as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) or equivalent required; additional certifications in X-ray and infection control preferred.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures across general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatrics.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; experience with medical coding and documentation is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform X-ray imaging accurately while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards.
- Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly to patients of all ages, especially pediatrics.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment supporting four-handed dentistry techniques while demonstrating aseptic technique and infection control best practices.
