Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) - Pediatrics and General Dentistry

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) specializing in Pediatrics and General Dentistry to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, excellent patient care skills, and proficiency with various dental software systems. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, providing high-quality dental care to diverse patient populations, including children and adults. The EFDA will support the dental team by performing advanced chairside assisting, clinical procedures, and ensuring strict adherence to infection control protocols.

Duties

  • Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments.
  • Perform chairside assisting with precision, including handling dental instruments and materials efficiently.
  • Take and develop X-rays, including digital imaging and 3D scans, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Manage medical documentation and records accurately using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Obtain vital signs and medical history updates for patients prior to treatment.
  • Apply aseptic techniques to maintain an infection-free environment within the clinic.
  • Educate patients on oral health practices tailored to pediatric and general dentistry needs.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and assisting with front desk duties when needed.
  • Ensure adherence to all infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment using proper sterilization techniques.
  • Collaborate with the dental team in four-handed dentistry procedures to optimize workflow efficiency.
  • Utilize knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical coding for accurate documentation and billing processes.

Experience

  • Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is desirable.
  • Experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus, along with familiarity in general dentistry procedures including prosthodontics and endodontics.
  • Knowledge of X-ray techniques, medical imaging, and 3D scanning technology is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques is essential.
  • Candidates should demonstrate excellent chairside assisting skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment supporting both pediatric and adult patients. Pay: $33.00 - $38.00 per hour
