Experienced Background / OSINT / SIU Investigator/Social Media Investigator

Experienced Background / OSINT / SIU Investigator

4-year college degree required and strong writing skills emphasized heavily.

We are seeking an experienced Background, OSINT, and/or SIU Investigator to join our investigative team. This position may be full-time or part-time, with a strong preference.

This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone who already understands how to conduct thorough, accurate, legally compliant investigations and produce clean, professional written reports. Strong writing skills are essential for this role.

The ideal candidate has experience working with insurance claims, litigation support, SIU investigations, background investigations, social media investigations, public records, court records, FOIA requests, and other online investigative research. You should be detail-oriented, resourceful, organized, and capable of turning scattered information into clear, useful investigative findings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct background investigations, OSINT research, and SIU-related investigations
  • Perform public records searches, court record searches, database research, social media investigations, and online due diligence
  • Prepare and submit FOIA / public records requests when needed
  • Identify relevant information from civil, criminal, property, business, licensing, employment, social media, and other public-source records
  • Review and analyze online activity, social media profiles, images, videos, usernames, affiliations, and related digital footprints
  • Prepare clear, concise, well-organized investigative reports
  • Write reports that are professional, accurate, grammatically sound, and suitable for review by claims professionals, attorneys, insurance carriers, and corporate clients
  • Document sources, findings, dates, links, screenshots, and supporting information accurately
  • Verify information before including it in a report
  • Work independently while meeting deadlines and maintaining consistent communication
  • Assist with investigations involving insurance claims, bodily injury claims, workers’ compensation claims, liability claims, and other SIU matters
  • For local candidates, assist with in-office investigative tasks, case preparation, report review, research, and administrative support as needed

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree required
  • Prior experience as a background investigator, OSINT investigator, SIU investigator, claims investigator, private investigator, or similar role
  • Strong experience conducting remote investigations, public records research, and online investigative work
  • Strong report-writing skills with excellent grammar, organization, clarity, and attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze information and explain findings in a clear, professional, and defensible manner
  • Proficiency with public records, court records, social media platforms, search engines, databases, FOIA requests, and online investigative tools
  • Ability to verify information before including it in a report
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality, discretion, and legally compliant investigative practices
  • Experience with insurance defense, claims investigations, workers’ compensation, bodily injury, or SIU matters is strongly preferred
  • Private investigator license or eligibility is a plus, depending on jurisdiction
  • Candidates located in or near Orange County, California, with the ability to work in-office, are strongly preferred

What We’re Looking For

We want someone who knows how to dig — but also knows how to write.

A strong candidate will know the difference between raw information and useful intelligence. You should be able to locate information, evaluate its reliability, connect relevant facts, and explain your findings in a way that is clear, accurate, concise, and useful to the client.

This role is best suited for someone who is meticulous, curious, skeptical, and comfortable working through detailed investigative records, databases, social media, court records, public records, and online sources. You should be comfortable following investigative leads, documenting your work, and producing reports that are professional enough to be relied upon by claims professionals, attorneys, insurance carriers, and corporate clients.

Poorly written reports, unsupported conclusions, careless grammar, or vague findings will not work in this position. The ability to write clearly and professionally is just as important as the ability to conduct the investigation itself.

Location

Remote candidates with strong experience. Hybrid arrangements may be available depending on experience, location, availability, and business needs.

Schedule

This position may be full-time or part-time, depending on experience, availability, and workload.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience, skill level, availability, location, and quality of work.

To Apply

Please submit your resume along with a brief summary of your experience conducting background investigations, OSINT research, SIU investigations, social media investigations, FOIA requests, court record searches, and investigative report writing.

Please also indicate whether you are located in or near Orange County, California, and whether you are available for in-office, hybrid, or remote work.

Qualified applicants should be prepared to discuss prior investigative experience, writing ability, research methods, availability, and familiarity with insurance claims or SIU-related investigations.
