Experienced Kitchen & Bath Designer
Marling Lumber Company and HomeWorks, established in 1904, is a trusted provider of building materials and design solutions for remodeling and new construction. We are seeking a Design Consultant – Kitchen & Bath to guide retail and contractor customers through the design, selection, and quoting process for residential and commercial projects.
This role combines technical design expertise, sales, and customer service. Using the 20/20 Design Program, the Design Consultant creates layouts, estimates, and quotes while listening closely to customer needs, guiding product selection, and working within established budgets. The ideal candidate is creative, detail‑oriented, customer‑focused, and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
Design Consultants earn a base salary plus monthly commission and quarterly bonuses, with opportunities for long‑term growth within the Marling team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Consult with retail and contractor customers to understand project goals, design preferences, and budget requirements
- Design kitchen and bath layouts using the 20/20 Design Program
- Prepare accurate estimates and project quotes
- Guide customers through cabinetry, finishes, colors, and product selections
- Present design concepts clearly and professionally
- Maintain strong working knowledge of cabinet lines, materials, and current design trends
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure accurate ordering and customer satisfaction
- Build and maintain long‑term customer relationships through exceptional service
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Design or related field OR equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3 years of retail or commercial design experience preferred
- Experience developing product designs strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of design principles and their application to functional spaces
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects
- Positive, professional, and customer‑focused attitude
