The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our team and take ownership of a portfolio of client bookkeeping and payroll engagements. This is a hands-on, client-facing role that requires deep QBO proficiency, strong payroll experience, and the confidence to work independently.

This position is based out of our Boulder office with significant remote flexibility outside of tax season — ideal for a self-directed professional who delivers results without needing to be managed.

Core Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for a portfolio of small business clients across multiple industries
• Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations and support month-end close cycles
• Prepare financial statements including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports
• Process client payroll accurately and on schedule using ADP Run
• Handle sales tax filings and quarterly payroll tax compliance
• Onboard new bookkeeping clients and set up QBO files from scratch when needed
• Collaborate closely with the firm's CPA and tax team to support client engagements
• Communicate directly with clients to gather information, resolve discrepancies, and deliver reports
• Maintain organized client records within Canopy and ShareFile

What We're Looking For

Required

• 5+ years of bookkeeping experience — this is a senior role and we are looking for proven expertise
• Deep, hands-on QuickBooks Online proficiency — you should be able to set up clients, troubleshoot, reconcile, and produce reports confidently
• Payroll processing experience — ADP Run preferred; other platforms considered
• Prior experience working in a CPA firm, accounting firm, or public accounting environment — this is essential
• Strong understanding of GAAP and bookkeeping best practices
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously without dropping the ball
• Professional communication skills — you will interact directly with clients
• Self-directed and reliable — this role requires someone who owns their work

Preferred — Not Required

• QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification
• Experience with Canopy practice management software
• Familiarity with Colorado sales tax and payroll tax compliance
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
