Expawers is a structured, high-end dog hiking and training company working with dogs in real-world environments—not just walks around the block.
We are currently looking for a reliable, grounded, and highly aware dog handler to join our team.
This is not a casual dog walking job.
This is for someone who understands dogs beyond the surface level.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Handling and hiking structured packs (12–15 dogs) in off-leash environments
- Reading dog behavior in real time and making proactive decisions
- Maintaining calm, controlled pack energy at all times
- Supporting safe transportation (pick-ups/drop-offs)
- Working alongside a team with clear standards and expectations
Must Have
- Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on experience working with multiple dogs in a professional setting (shelter, daycare, training, pack walks, etc.)
- Strong understanding of dog behavior, body language, and pack dynamics
- Ability to handle multiple strong, high-energy off-leash dogs in outdoor environments for up to 3 hours
- Proven ability to prevent and de-escalate conflict between dogs using calm, controlled handling
- Comfortable applying basic obedience and structure (recall, boundaries, leash transitions) with clarity and authority
- Comfortable using training tools such as prong collars and e-collars (when appropriate)
- Comfortable working with all breeds, sizes, and temperaments
- Physically capable of working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions

Logistics Requirements
- Must live in NYC
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to operate company's van
- Must own a smartphone for communication and capturing content during hikes

Schedule
- Weekdays (Mon–Fri)
- Consistent availability required
- Early mornings through early afternoon
Compensation
- Starting rate depends on experience and skills.
- This is not an hourly or salaried and is paid for each working day
- Opportunity to grow into higher-responsibility roles (training, leadership)
