Express Freight Courier (Independent Contractor) — Hybrid Box Truck & On-Demand

Meadowlark Logistics is contracting with one independent driver for a hybrid engagement: on-demand courier work in your own vehicle three days a week, and two dedicated box-truck lanes the other two days. No CDL is required.

On-demand courier, your vehicle. You run pickups and deliveries as they're dispatched, in your own vehicle, across our service area. The work varies day to day — one morning it may be an early, time-critical medical run; another day, general small-package courier work. Volume varies, as it does with any on-demand courier work.

Thursday — dedicated lane, company 16' box truck. A consistent weekly lane into Western South Dakota, roughly 600 miles round trip. The freight is palletized express product, loaded and unloaded by liftgate with a pallet jack — quick to load. Light physical handling.

Friday — dedicated lane, company 16' box truck. A consistent weekly lane into Central North Dakota, roughly 360 miles round trip. Same setup: palletized express freight, liftgate and pallet jack, light handling.

Both box-truck lanes run the same route every week, so you can plan around them.

Pay

There are two contract rates — one for the days you run your own vehicle, and one for the days you operate the company box truck. Meadowlark covers the fuel on the company truck. Specific rates are discussed during the interview.

As a general guide, daily earnings on this engagement typically run in the range of $175 to $300 a day, depending on the day and the volume you take on.

Your vehicle

For the on-demand days, you provide your own vehicle — at minimum a small SUV or minivan, clean, reliable, and properly insured for the work.

What you'll need

• Be at least 18 years old at the start of the engagement
• A valid driver's license and a safe driving record
• Your own qualifying vehicle (small SUV or minivan, minimum)
• Valid vehicle insurance, maintained throughout

You may operate as an individual or through your own business entity.

Screening

The following are required as a condition of engagement:

• DOT physical
• Drug screening
• Criminal background check
• TSA security eligibility

Getting started

Qualified candidates can usually begin within about a week of an offer, depending on how quickly you complete your DOT physical and how soon the background check clears. Meadowlark also provides access to required compliance certifications, including HIPAA, so you're properly prepared for the sensitive, time-critical freight this engagement can involve.
