Installation and maintenance
- Design, install, and repair EHV systems, which can include high-voltage substations, circuit breakers, transformers, and distribution lines.
- Perform maintenance on equipment such as generators, turbines, and pumps.
- Install and connect transformers, and install underground cable, conduit, and ductwork.
- Clean, adjust, and repair electrical equipment as needed.
Testing and troubleshooting
- Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in installations and systems.
- Conduct tests using equipment like voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, and infrared heat detectors.
- Monitor equipment performance through gauges and charts.
- Test circuits to ensure safety and compatibility before and after installation.
Safety and compliance
- Adhere to strict safety procedures when working with high-voltage electricity.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement safety management schemes.
- Ensure all work complies with electrical codes and company objectives.
- Provide training and guidance on safe work practices to other personnel.
Supervision and project management
- Assist project engineers in monitoring equipment erection and cable installation.
- Supervise or assist other technicians, and lead crews in some roles.
- Oversee and assist with new installations and repairs, and visually check the work of contractors for compliance.
- Coordinate electrical renovations and high-voltage work.
Documentation and reporting
- Perform measurements and prepare technical documentation.
- Maintain detailed records of all work performed, including hours and materials used.
- Prepare estimates for labor and materials, and draft reports on operations and project status.
- Arrange for the handover of completed equipment and circuits.
