Shop Supervisor Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Shop Supervisor to oversee daily fabrication and welding operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of welding and metal fabrication processes, and the ability to manage personnel, schedules, quality standards, and production workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily shop operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Lead and support a team of welders, fabricators, and shop personnel.
  • Assign work tasks, monitor productivity, and maintain quality control standards.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and project specifications.
  • Oversee the fabrication of structural steel components, columns, beams, stair systems, and hand railings.
  • Ensure proper fabrication techniques and welding procedures are followed for steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials.
  • Coordinate material handling, equipment usage, and shop workflow to maximize efficiency.
  • Assist with hands-on fabrication and welding when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, field crews, and customers to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance and shop organization.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in welding and metal fabrication.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes including MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core welding.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a fabrication or structural steel environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication details.
  • Experience with structural steel fabrication and erection.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Proficiency with fabrication equipment, hand tools, and shop machinery.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Ability to operate an all-terrain forklift (certification a plus).
  • Crane rigging experience a plus.
  • AWS D1.1 certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical labor in a fabrication shop environment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in various shop and field conditions.

Schedule

  • Full-time position.
  • Typical work week: 45+ hours.
  • Weekend work is rare but may be required as project demands dictate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
