Fabrication Technician I

CHL Systems is seeking a Fabrication Technician I to support fabrication and material-processing operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for someone with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an interest in building core fabrication skills in a hands-on shop setting.
This position plays an important role in preparing, processing, and finishing materials used throughout production. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow their skills in fabrication equipment, material handling, and shop operations.

What You’ll Do
Fabrication & Material Processing
- Perform basic shear, saw, and cutting operations
- Assist with press brake setup and perform simple forming operations under supervision
- Operate laser cutting equipment under guidance
- Support operation of rollers and ironworkers while following established procedures
- Deburr, clean, and finish parts to remove burrs, sharp edges, and surface imperfections
Measurement, Quality & Accuracy
- Measure and inspect parts for accuracy using basic measuring tools and gauges
- Read and follow shop drawings, work orders, and instructions
- Help ensure materials and completed parts meet established quality expectations
Material Handling & Shop Support
- Load, stage, and move materials and parts throughout the fabrication area
- Label, track, and update part and material information according to shop procedures
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe working condition
- Support overall shop workflow and assist with general fabrication tasks as needed
Safety & Team Support
- Follow all required PPE, safety, housekeeping, and environmental procedures
- Work under moderate supervision while continuing to build technical skills and independence
- May assist Fabrication Apprentices with basic tasks when appropriate
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, and handle materials and tools
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Occasional lifting up to 100 pounds
- Requires close, distance, color, and depth vision
- Regular use of hands on tools, measurement devices, and material handling
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–2 years of general work experience, including fabrication apprenticeship, shop experience, or technical training preferred
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a manufacturing environment
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Familiarity with hand tools, measuring devices, and basic fabrication processes
- Ability to read a fractional tape measure and convert fractions to decimals
- Basic understanding of angles and fundamental geometry concepts
- Ability to follow directions, work instructions, and standard operating procedures
- Basic understanding of material types and common fabrication equipment
- Ability to read and interpret simple shop drawings and work instructions

- Reliable, motivated, and eager to continue developing fabrication skills
- Ability to work effectively with supervision and as part of a team
- Solid verbal and written communication skills in English

Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts
- Regular exposure to noise, airborne particles, fumes, and vibration
- May involve operation of forklifts, side loaders, overhead cranes, and fabrication equipment
- Work is primarily performed on the shop floor in a hands-on production setting
