Position Summary
The Courier is responsible for the timely and secure pickup and delivery of packages, documents, lab specimens, and other materials between designated locations. This role supports departmental operations by managing incoming and outgoing mail, maintaining delivery records, and assisting with general facilities, clerical, and maintenance tasks as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver packages, documents, lab specimens, and other items securely and in a timely manner to designated locations.
- Sort, manage, and distribute incoming mail to appropriate mailboxes promptly.
- Process outgoing mail in accordance with established procedures.
- Plan and follow the most efficient delivery routes between buildings to ensure timely service.
- Maintain accurate records for all received and delivered items.
- Communicate with the Director of Facilities regarding vehicle maintenance needs or delivery issues.
- Pick up orders and supplies from external vendors such as retail or supply stores as needed.
- Assist with shipping and receiving tasks as assigned.
- Perform light maintenance, clerical, or general support duties as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the department and organization.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- 0–1 years of relevant experience in delivery, courier services, or a related field preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Basic customer service skills with a professional demeanor.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, follow directions, and handle sensitive materials securely.
- Knowledge of maps, navigation, and traffic laws
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while adapting to changing priorities.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in a mobile and facilities-based environment, requiring frequent driving and walking between buildings.
- The role involves continuous engagement and interaction with others and may involve occasional or frequent interruptions.
- The work environment includes exposure to varying weather conditions during deliveries.
- There is potential exposure to standard materials handled in a healthcare or facilities setting, including packages, documents, and lab specimens.
- Physical demands include prolonged periods of driving and walking, frequent entering and exiting vehicles and buildings, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
- The position may also involve occasional stress due to multiple responsibilities and competing priorities.
