Facilities & Delivery Manager

The Facilities & Delivery Manager oversees all aspects of the Nassau Library System’s (NLS) 32,000 sq. ft. facility to provide a clean, safe, and properly functioning working environment for NLS staff and visitors. They are also responsible for the shipping and delivery operation to NLS’s 54 member libraries and oversee third-party vendors that assist with capital projects and building and grounds upkeep. The position is full time, FLSA exempt, and not in the collective bargaining unit. The successful candidate will serve in a deputy capacity until the retirement of the incumbent Facilities & Delivery Manager later this year.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Has primary responsibility for building, grounds, and NLS-owned vehicles and serves as primary line of response for related emergencies during and outside of operating hours
  • Directly supervises the work of the Facilities & Delivery Assistant, Driver on staff, and contracted delivery drivers/sorters
  • Maintains vendor relations, obtains and evaluates proposals, and executes procurement of goods and services within areas of responsibility
  • Ensures best practices for life safety are followed, plans preventive maintenance and inspections, develops emergency plans, and documents building systems and operations
  • Provides excellent customer service to NLS and member library staff; consults with member libraries about facilities maintenance
  • Takes initiative to recommend building upgrades and workflow improvements to administration

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in facilities, logistics, or related field; minimum one-year supervisory experience; minimum one-year experience with primary responsibility for commercial or government building
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing documentation related to facility maintenance and strong vendor relations skills
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of building systems and mechanical equipment; ability to perform minor repairs and troubleshoot building and vehicle issues
  • Basic computer skills including email, internet, and word processing
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with ability to work independently with attention to detail and organization

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical labor including moving at least 50 pounds alone and work in a variety of physically demanding environments including exposure to extreme temperatures
  • Typical work hours are 7:30am-3:30pm Monday-Friday, subject to change; Some additional evening and weekend work may be required
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Compensation: Starting salary $85,000-$100,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits, including participation in the New York State pension system and health insurance program.
