POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facilities Maintenance Assistant supports the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and management of buildings, equipment, and workspaces. They ensure that facilities are safe, clean, and fully functional for employees and visitors. This role often involves coordinating repairs, handling office moves, managing supplies, assisting with vendor services, and responding to maintenance requests. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the move, is highly dependable, and takes pride in creating and maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment for both people and animals.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Facilities Specialist with routine maintenance, repairs, and special projects.
  • Set up and rearrange office furniture and meeting spaces as needed.
  • Monitor and report building conditions, safety concerns, or equipment issues.
  • Perform basic repairs such as patching, painting, and replacing fixtures.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of common areas, including sweeping, mopping, and restocking supplies.
  • Assist with exterior groundskeeping tasks like blowing walkways, trash removal, and pressure washing.
  • Provide basic support for the Oaklawn Pet Cemetery, including burial assistance as needed.
  • Coordinate access for external vendors (plumbers, electricians, etc.) and monitor on-site work.
  • Conduct routine inspections and perform deep cleanings when necessary.
  • Ensure all facilities tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
  • Safely transport animals between veterinary clinics, shelters, adoption events, and foster/rescue partners.
  • Monitor animal welfare during transit and ensure proper, humane handling at all times.
  • Clean and disinfect transport vehicles after each use to maintain biosecurity and safety.
  • Drive company vehicles to pick up and deliver supplies, documents, and equipment between offices, vendors, and partner sites.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Prior experience in driving, maintenance, or facilities support preferred.
  • Comfortable handling animals and understanding their care in transit.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), work indoors and outdoors.
  • Strong time management skills, dependability, and a positive, team-focused attitude.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or HVAC is a plus.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends or evenings for special events or emergency needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting and carrying equipment over 50 pounds.
  • Walking and standing for prolonged periods depending on the task.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, squatting, and stooping.
  • Ability to work in environments that may have animals and animal-related hazards.
