Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant is responsible for helping maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the organization’s facilities. This position supports daily building upkeep by cleaning restrooms, vacuuming and mopping floors, removing trash, and maintaining the cleanliness of both indoor and outdoor areas. The role helps ensure that staff, clients, volunteers, and visitors are welcomed into a sanitary and well-maintained space.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, counters, floors, and dispensers.
- Restock restroom supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other sanitation items.
- Vacuum carpets and rugs in offices, hallways, meeting areas, and common spaces.
- Sweep and mop floors in designated interior areas.
- Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building and replace liners as needed.
- Pick up litter and debris outside the building, including parking lots, walkways, entrances, side areas, and other exterior spaces.
- Spray down and clean exterior areas at the front of the building, along the sides, and around garden areas to help maintain a clean and welcoming appearance.
- Help maintain the cleanliness and appearance of outdoor spaces, including entryways, sidewalks, curbs, and landscaped or garden areas.
- Perform minor hedge trimming, light gardening, and basic groundskeeping to help maintain neat and presentable outdoor areas.
- Remove weeds, fallen leaves, and other debris from planters, garden beds, and exterior grounds as needed.
- Clean and maintain common areas, breakrooms, lobbies, and staff spaces.
- Wipe down high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, counters, tables, light switches, and shared equipment.
- Monitor the building and grounds for cleanliness, safety concerns, and basic maintenance needs, and report issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with basic facility upkeep and light maintenance tasks that support the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the building and grounds.
- Safely use cleaning supplies, chemicals, tools, and equipment in accordance with workplace procedures.
- Help maintain janitorial storage areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Support event setup or cleanup, as assigned.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory:
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
- Regular exposure to cleaning products, dust, dirt, and normal building conditions.
- May involve early morning, late afternoon, or evening shifts depending on business needs.
- Moderate physical activity is required throughout the shift.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift during routine cleaning duties.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to use cleaning tools and equipment such as vacuums, mops, brooms, and trash carts, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
