The Facilities Manager is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of our 3.5-acre campus. Our campus is a critical component of our mission to provide a challenging, progressive education in a nurturing environment so that students can become confident, enthusiastic learners and caring participants in their local and global communities. The Facilities Manager takes ownership of the campus and facilities - a real doer, who finds creative solutions.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Track and prioritize all facilities’ needs
  • Manage a budget
  • Bring capital improvement needs to the Business and Finance Director (BFD), and Head of School (HoS)
  • Manage the custodial, snow removal, and all other grounds/maintenance vendors and needs
  • Work with the staff and parent association to create parent volunteer job opportunities
  • Shepherd and follow the maintenance annual plan, which includes regular maintenance tasks, unforeseen repairs as they arise, and the scheduling of professional services to maintain the safety and functionality of campus
  • Implement a facilities risk assessment and management plan
  • Monitor bus maintenance and small repairs
  • Own a vehicle capable of hauling, towing, and running errands - monthly mileage reimbursements will be issued
  • Take care of irrigation maintenance and small repairs
  • Manage sustainability efforts across the campus with recycling, composting, and reducing waste
  • Participate in the evening, weekend, and holiday coverage of occasional facility emergencies
  • Communicate effectively with the BFD and HOS to recommend and schedule facility projects, maintenance, and improvements
  • Support faculty with troubleshooting technology equipment issues
  • Manage facilities rentals
  • Check teachers out of classrooms during last days of school
  • Manage keys and security access for staff, vendors, and renters
  • Turn in all paperwork and receipts daily

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong foundational knowledge of landscaping and groundskeeping principles, with an emphasis on sustainability and functional, kid-safe outdoor environments that supports creative play and nature-based exploration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to adapt quickly, being willing to change, and having a diverse skill set to accomplish a wide variety of tasks
  • Strong planning and time management skills
  • Demonstrated experience using common hand tools and standard equipment used in maintenance work
  • Must comply with all local and state building codes and regulations
  • Ability to make quick decisions and solve problems correctly and efficiently
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk up a flight of stairs
  • Must pass a background check
  • Our campus is smoke-free, therefore, we do not allow tobacco use in any form at the workplace

Work Environment and Additional Physical Requirements:

This is moderate/heavy work requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force. Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions. Also includes the necessity to communicate by talking, hearing, and listening. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception; the ability to adjust focus for the operation of machines and equipment; determination of accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observation of general surroundings. Work performed may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting for long periods with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls. Work may require strenuous manual labor, including but not limited to digging, shoveling, sweeping, raking, hauling, crawling, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and climbing. The work environment is both indoors and outdoors year-round.

Position Type:

This is a three-quarter time, hourly position with year round responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic understanding and at least 3 years of experience of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, flooring, painting, roofing, machinery, mechanics, heating/ventilation, and janitorial to manage contractors and projects
  • Knowledge of Google Suite apps: Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Forms
  • Able to recognize occupational hazards in work activities and take safety precautions; must comply with all safety regulations
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a 14-passenger bus
  • Knowledge and ability to drive a vehicle while pulling a trailer
