Facility Director

Position Summary

The Facility & EHS Director oversees all aspects of facility operations, environmental health and safety (EHS), maintenance, housekeeping, and shipping/receiving functions. This role ensures that the physical plant, equipment, and work environment support operational goals while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements. The Director provides strategic leadership, manages departmental staff, and ensures efficient, safe, and cost-effective operations across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Operations Management

  • Oversee the planning, operation, and maintenance of all company buildings, grounds, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term facility improvement plans.
  • Manage space planning, equipment layout, and facility expansion or renovation projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure high-quality work and cost-effective solutions.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Management

  • Oversee and Manage the EHS department.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Lead workplace hazard assessments, incident investigations, and root-cause analyses.
  • Drive a strong safety culture through training, communication, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain required documentation, permits, reporting, and compliance records.

Maintenance Management

  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for all equipment, machinery, and facility systems.
  • Prioritize maintenance work orders and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Ensure proper staffing, training, and development of maintenance technicians.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and equipment reliability strategies.

Shipping & Receiving Management

  • Manage daily shipping and receiving operations to ensure timely and accurate handling of materials and finished goods.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for inbound/outbound logistics, material staging, and inventory accuracy.
  • Work closely with production, purchasing, and logistics teams to optimize workflow and support production schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT and hazardous materials handling regulations.

Housekeeping & Facility Cleanliness

  • Oversee janitorial/housekeeping staff and ensure the facility meets cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Develop cleaning schedules, inspection procedures, and continuous improvement efforts to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Direct and mentor facility, EHS, maintenance, shipping/receiving, and housekeeping personnel.
  • Establish performance goals, conduct evaluations, and provide coaching and training.
  • Promote collaboration across departments and ensure effective communication.

Budgeting & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage department budgets, including capital expenditures and operating costs.
  • Track and report KPIs related to facility operations, safety, maintenance, and logistics performance.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Occupational Safety, Operations Management, or related field (preferred).
  • 7–10+ years of experience in facilities management, maintenance, EHS, or operations leadership.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, logistics, or similar environments preferred.
  • Certifications such as OSHA 30, CSP, CHMM, or facilities management credentials a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of building systems, industrial equipment, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple departments and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with CMMS, EHS management software, and MS Office tools.

Working Conditions

  • Mix of office and manufacturing/warehouse environments.
  • Regular walking, inspections, and interaction with operations teams.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
