We are looking for an organized and detail oriented individual to join our team in East Grand Forks, MN as a Factory Chemist . The purpose of this position is to supervise factory laboratory operations to provide accurate and pertinent chemical analyses and support information for in-process and final quality and safety verification. Provides technical guidance and direction in the areas of internal audits and regulatory compliance support to facility personnel.

The principal accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Lead and promote a positive work culture through Company Values of Safety, Integrity, Quality, Teamwork, and Accountability.
• Assists facility personnel in identification of process problems, gathering and analyzing data and formulating corrective action. Monitors analytical procedures, results from the laboratory, and on-line measurement systems to assure product specifications are met.
• Maintains and assures compliance with company standard laboratory analysis procedures providing an ongoing review to assure precision and accuracy of procedures, including support of all satellite labs in the facility.
• Monitors quality control standards and directs quality assurance activities to assure compliance to specifications. Identifies current and potential problem areas and safeguards against product degradation; assures appropriate action is taken.
• Interacts with USC and MAC to resolve complaints on product quality and provide technical assistance when necessary.
• Works with facility management in conducting documented audits of the facility HACCP system and Current Good Manufacturing Practices, making recommendations regarding activities or practices that do not follow established company policies and procedures. Provides training support to personnel.
• Maintains certification as the Company Site SQF Practitioner with the responsibility and authority to lead the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the Food Safety Fundamentals, Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality plan.
• Accompanies regulatory inspectors from Food and Drug agencies and provides necessary documentation to Corporate management.
• Provides technical process accounting, including beet weight and sugar content of beets entering the factory, production and inventories of sugar and by-products as well as material used in processing.
• Ensures laboratory staff provide first aid in the absence of the Occupational Health Nurse
• Supervises laboratory operations within established parameters and ensures the accuracy of analytical tests and data prepared by assigned staff.

To be successful in this position requires a four-year college degree in chemistry or a closely related field. The ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects in various phases of development; complete projects within established time frames; and develop appropriate documentation, procedures and training programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements are required. Effective supervisory and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels within the factory and with customers and representatives from regulatory agencies also required.
