Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented <PERSON> to join our healthcare team as a Medical Coding Specialist. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes used for billing, insurance claims, and medical records management. Your expertise will ensure seamless communication between healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients, supporting efficient revenue cycle management. Duties
- Review and analyze medical documentation including physician notes, operative reports, and patient records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) procedure codes.
- Ensure all coding complies with current guidelines such as DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications and medical coding standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or ambiguities for accurate coding.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding changes, updates in ICD coding systems, and billing regulations.
- Prepare and submit accurate claims for reimbursement using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Assist in medical record audits to verify coding accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
- Support medical billing processes by ensuring proper code assignment for efficient claim processing and collections.
Skills
- Strong understanding of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in medical coding software and EMR/EHR systems.
- Knowledge of medical records management and medical collection procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex clinical documentation accurately.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers and billing teams.
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment is preferred.
