(Content Creation, Layout, Design & Editing)

Position: Assistant / Associate Professor

Location: K.R. Mangalam University, Gurugram

Role overview

This role focuses on storytelling and visual communication for the creator economy — content creation, layout, design, branding, and packaging across print, social and interactive media. The faculty member will bridge classical design principles with contemporary tools and platform‑first content formats, working in a studio-led, project-based & experiential learning environment.

Core responsibilities

  • Teach studio-based courses in Layout & Design, Typography, Digital Illustration, Brand Identity and Visual Storytelling for social and interactive media.
  • Conduct intensive labs in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and prototyping/collab tools like Figma, Canva or similar.
  • Guide students in designing newsletters, press kits, pitch decks, social media content packs and cross-platform brand systems for SEMCE projects and client briefs.
  • Co-create production pipelines with students.
  • Collaborate with SEMCE’s other faculty to visually package student research, campaigns and creator brands.
  • Contribute to curriculum design for design-oriented courses, aligning them with industry-standard roles (graphic designer, brand designer, content designer, UI-leaning visual designer, etc.).
  • Participate in university duties: mentoring, committees, accreditation documentation, and outreach events.

Skills faculty must have

  • Strong command of visual communication: grid systems, hierarchy, typography, colour, image treatment, and composition for both screen and print.
  • Comfort working with short-form, mobile-first and social media content formats (reels covers, carousels, thumbnails, display ads, email newsletters).
  • Ability to review and critique student work constructively using clear rubrics and industry language.
  • Collaboration mindset to work with colleagues in integrated projects.

Tools / platforms (expected proficiency)

  • Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop (advanced, portfolio-level).
  • Canva and/or Figma for rapid layout, templates and collaborative design.
  • Basic familiarity with motion/ video tools (Premiere Pro, After Effects, CapCut) to interface with video faculty and design for motion use-cases.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted design tools (e.g., generative fill, layout suggestions, image generation) is a plus.

Can create and teach courses around

  • Layout & Design, Typography for Media, Digital Illustration.
  • Storytelling for Social Media; Brand Identity & Design Systems.
  • Content Production and Design for Newsletters, Press Kits, Magazine Layouts and Digital Publications.
  • Design Labs linked to capstone projects, student-run media brands and live client briefs.

Ideal background

  • Master’s/Ph.D. in Design, Visual Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, Digital Media or related field.
  • OR strong industry portfolio as a designer / art director / content designer with 3–8 years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrable portfolio of multi-platform design work (print + digital + social).
  • Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience preferred but outstanding practitioners willing to work in an academic setting will also be considered.
