Job Description: Faculty – Storytelling
(Content Creation, Layout, Design & Editing)
Position: Assistant / Associate Professor
School: School of Emerging Media & Creator Economy (SEMCE)
Location: K.R. Mangalam University, Gurugram
Role overview
This role focuses on storytelling and visual communication for the creator economy — content creation, layout, design, branding, and packaging across print, social and interactive media. The faculty member will bridge classical design principles with contemporary tools and platform‑first content formats, working in a studio-led, project-based & experiential learning environment.
Core responsibilities
- Teach studio-based courses in Layout & Design, Typography, Digital Illustration, Brand Identity and Visual Storytelling for social and interactive media.
- Conduct intensive labs in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and prototyping/collab tools like Figma, Canva or similar.
- Guide students in designing newsletters, press kits, pitch decks, social media content packs and cross-platform brand systems for SEMCE projects and client briefs.
- Co-create production pipelines with students.
- Collaborate with SEMCE’s other faculty to visually package student research, campaigns and creator brands.
- Contribute to curriculum design for design-oriented courses, aligning them with industry-standard roles (graphic designer, brand designer, content designer, UI-leaning visual designer, etc.).
- Participate in university duties: mentoring, committees, accreditation documentation, and outreach events.
Skills faculty must have
- Strong command of visual communication: grid systems, hierarchy, typography, colour, image treatment, and composition for both screen and print.
- Comfort working with short-form, mobile-first and social media content formats (reels covers, carousels, thumbnails, display ads, email newsletters).
- Ability to review and critique student work constructively using clear rubrics and industry language.
- Collaboration mindset to work with colleagues in integrated projects.
Tools / platforms (expected proficiency)
- Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop (advanced, portfolio-level).
- Canva and/or Figma for rapid layout, templates and collaborative design.
- Basic familiarity with motion/ video tools (Premiere Pro, After Effects, CapCut) to interface with video faculty and design for motion use-cases.
- Exposure to AI-assisted design tools (e.g., generative fill, layout suggestions, image generation) is a plus.
Can create and teach courses around
- Layout & Design, Typography for Media, Digital Illustration.
- Storytelling for Social Media; Brand Identity & Design Systems.
- Content Production and Design for Newsletters, Press Kits, Magazine Layouts and Digital Publications.
- Design Labs linked to capstone projects, student-run media brands and live client briefs.
Ideal background
- Master’s/Ph.D. in Design, Visual Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, Digital Media or related field.
- OR strong industry portfolio as a designer / art director / content designer with 3–8 years of professional experience.
- Demonstrable portfolio of multi-platform design work (print + digital + social).
- Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience preferred but outstanding practitioners willing to work in an academic setting will also be considered.
