Family Advocate in Domestic Violence Shelter - 1st Shift

(FULL TIME DAYS)

YWCA Evansville is seeking a first-shift family advocate for its domestic violence shelter who has experience working with individuals in crisis and case management skills. Ideal candidate will be a self-starter, team player, flexible, and possess a working knowledge of local agency resources. Ideal candidate will also exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to facilitate educational classes. Ideal candidate will possess critical thinking skills in order to handle crisis calls, determine if callers are appropriate for our shelter, and address any needs that arise with shelter residents during the shift. Previous social work background is desired. Candidate must have computer skills as the position requires entering case notes, online referrals and searches, email use, etc. This position will work with vulnerable populations and interact with clients and staff in a sensitive, non-judgmental open-minded manner.

SALARY $35,360/year - $39,520/year

Application

Responsibilities

  • Ensures direct services are recorded accurately within appropriate databases in a timely manner;
  • Enters client information in database systems including crisis calls;
  • Take crisis calls and assist with safety planning;
  • Provides orientation and intake services for individuals entering housing;
  • Provides services to all clients as needed;
  • Completes daily floor/room check and, where warranted, completes Repair Reports;
  • Provides services to all clients as needed, including referrals to other shelters, medication monitoring and transportation assistance;
  • Confers regularly with supervisor;
  • Attends a minimum of 10 hours of professional development conferences and workshops as recommended by supervisor;
  • Coordinates client security and emergency response and follows emergency procedures;
  • Maintains confidentiality;
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and professionalism when navigating challenging interpersonal situations
  • Demonstrates initiative and responsibility;
  • Assisting with front desk duties as needed;

Qualifications

Social work degree or certification preferred; experience in a social service field; Must be dependable and reliable and possess good communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to coordinate tasks with full time and part time staff. Must be emotionally mature and have the ability to work with vulnerable populations and interact with clients and staff in a sensitive, non-judgmental open-minded manner.
