Family and Victim Advocate

Job Title: Family and Victim Advocate
Reports To: Program Operations Manager
Schedule: Full-Time, non-exempt

Job Summary

The Family and Victim Advocate provides compassionate support to children and their caregivers throughout the investigative process in cases involving allegations of abuse or maltreatment. Using a trauma-informed, multidisciplinary approach, this role ensures families have access to resources, referrals, education, and guidance. Advocates work to reduce trauma, strengthen protective factors, and help families navigate both the child protection and judicial systems with dignity and support.

Key ResponsibilitiesFamily Support & Advocacy

· Serve as the first point of contact for caregivers, answering questions and providing orientation to the Child Advocacy Center (CAC).

· Welcome children and caregivers, ensuring a supportive and comfortable environment during their visit.

· Educate caregivers on their role in the investigative process and provide ongoing emotional support throughout.

· Provide intake and consent forms, ensuring understanding and completion.

Resource Connection & Referrals

· Provide information on available services, including victim’s compensation, crisis intervention, medical and mental health resources.

· Assist families with practical needs such as housing, food, clothing, or utilities.

· Make referrals to service providers as directed by the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and help caregivers schedule appointments.

Case Coordination & Follow-Up

· Maintain regular follow-up contact with families to ensure they are connected to needed services and supports.

· Refer families to the District Attorney’s Office Victim Assistance Coordinator for case updates and judicial system support.

· Coordinate with the Victim Assistance Coordinator to provide court preparation and attend hearings as needed.

· Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings to ensure coordinated, child-centered responses.

Community Engagement & Professional Development

· Support agency fundraising activities and community events.

· Attend training to maintain knowledge of child advocacy best practices.

· Participate in prevention and education programs within the CAC’s service area.

· Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics, and professionalism.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred.

· High school diploma/GED with at least 1 year of experience in social work, education, or related field required.

Skills & Competencies

· Discretion, maturity, integrity, and compassion when handling sensitive issues.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Effective problem-solving and organizational abilities.

· Ability to engage and work professionally with children and caregivers.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Flexibility to work varied hours based on family needs.

Other Requirements

· Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.

· Successful completion of a background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
