Family Assistant / Nanny (special needs)

Position: Full‑Time Family Assistant / Nanny

Location: San Mateo, CA

Start Date: Flexible

Schedule: Monday–Friday, typically 10:00 AM–5:00/6:00 PM; one evening per week for a weekly date‑night shift

Compensation: $40–$50/hour

Driving: Required

Children: Two school‑age children (4 and 8)

About the Role:

An active family in San Mateo is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and organized full‑time Family Assistant to join their household long term. The role combines childcare for two neurodiverse children (son with an ADHD profile and daughter with high‑functioning ASD) with household support such as laundry, errands, and meal preparation. The ideal candidate will have significant recent nanny experience, strong organizational skills, and proven success supporting children with neurodiverse needs using patient, structured, and positive approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

Family Assistant / Household Support

- Manage household laundry: washing, drying, folding, and organizing.

- Run routine errands: grocery shopping

- Prepare simple meals 2–3 times per week (recipes and meal plan provided).

- Maintain tidiness of home

Childcare (primary focus, afternoons)

- Pick up children from school (short distance) and safely transport as needed.

- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks.

- Assist with unpacking backpacks, organizing school items, and preparing lunches.

- Plan and lead engaging, age‑appropriate afternoon activities (park visits, backyard play, library trips, nature walks, crafts).

- Provide calm, consistent support tailored to children with ADHD and high‑functioning ASD.

Qualifications (Required)

- Minimum 5 years of professional in‑home nanny or family assistant experience

- Experience working with neurodiverse children, preferably ADHD and ASD.

- Strong English communication skills

- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record; comfortable driving children

- Current vaccinations, including COVID‑19.

- Ability to pass a criminal background check and complete California TrustLine registration.

- Excellent professional references from previous employer(s).

- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with sound judgment and discretion.
