- Paralegal Certificate (Required)
<Experience>
- Family Law Paralegal: 5 Years (Required)
- California Family Law: 5 Years (Required)
- Family Law practice in a minimum of one of these counties: Contra Costa County, Solano County, Sacramento County, Alameda
<Responsibilities>
- Track case progress from "beginning to end" ensuring all deadlines and procedural requirements are met.
- Preparing legal correspondence, including petitions, briefs, motions, discovery requests/responses, financial disclosures, client declarations, and affidavits related to family law cases such as divorce, domestic violence restraining orders, child custody, and support issues.
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness materials, and scheduling of witnesses.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research using tools like Westlaw to support case strategies and ensure compliance with current laws and regulations.
- Manage case files efficiently through legal case management systems like Clio, ensuring all documents are organized, accurate, and up-to-date.
- Maintain attorney and matter calendars: hearings, meetings, deadlines, discovery, and case milestones.
- Communicate with clients regarding their case.
- Analyze, review, and organize discovery materials, and client financial documents.
- Interview clients and witnesses to gather pertinent information and document details accurately for case development.
- Review and proofread legal documents for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to court standards; transcribe notes and correspondence as needed.
- Coordinate with courts, agencies, and other parties to facilitate filings, service of process, subpoenas and scheduling of hearings or mediations.
- Provide executive administrative support by managing calendars, scheduling appointments, answering phone inquiries with professionalism, and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Support attorneys with special projects and additional assignments as needed.
<Qualifications>
- Experience requesting and responding to discovery.
- Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent research skills using Westlaw.
- Excellent legal writing skills including drafting correspondence, pleadings, briefs and summaries.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attorneys and clients.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of court procedure and ability to assist with litigation related to family law.
- Self-disciplined, flexible and highly motivated.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Experience working within a law office environment handling document review, data entry, filing, and document management systems like Clio.
- Effective interviewing skills combined with professional phone etiquette for client interactions.
- Knowledge of California family law and court rules.
- Strong project management abilities to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
<Additional Information>
- This role is fully remote, Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm.
- The anticipated compensation for this role is $40 - $50 per hour, but ultimately will depend on experience and qualifications.
