FAMILY SERVICES SPECIALIST


JOB SUMMARY

This full-time, at-will position provides direct assistance to individuals and families by offering guidance, coaching, case management, and resource navigation that supports long-term stability and self-sufficiency. The role involves assessing needs, developing service strategies, and maintaining supportive relationships that encourage progress toward personal goals. This position also ensures program requirements are met through accurate documentation, collaborations, and participation in ongoing training and development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide direct support and guidance to individuals and families to promote stability, self-sufficiency, and progress toward personal goals in a variety of programs.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing interactions to understand client needs, strengths, and barriers to determine appropriate service pathways.
  • Build supportive, professional relationships that encourage client engagement, accountability, and long-term success.
  • Connect clients with internal and external programs and community resources that address financial, social and personal needs.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records that support program compliance and effective service delivery.
  • Support the implementation of grant-funded programs by assisting with eligibility processes, documentation requirements, and service coordination.
  • Contribute to program reporting by ensuring information is complete, accurate, and submitted within required timelines.
  • Collaborate with agency staff, community partners, and service providers to ensure coordinated and effective client support.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of educational activities, workshops, or group supports that enhance client learning and skill-building.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain program knowledge and support high quality service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records that support program compliance and effective service delivery.
  • May provide services and support across multiple programs and/or projects, adapting to organizational priorities while maintaining the core functions as described.
  • Other duties as may be assigned and/or requested from time to time in fulfillment of the agency’s mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This role involves assessing client needs, developing appropriate service strategies, and maintaining supportive relationships that encourage progress toward personal goals. This position also ensures that program requirements are met and supports the delivery of both core and grant-funded services.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s B.A. or B.S. degree in Sociology, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field, required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • General understanding of social services programs, community resources, and principles that support family stability, self-sufficiency, and client-centered service delivery.
  • Strong ability to build rapport, provide coaching and advocacy, collaborate with diverse clients, staff, and community partners, and communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records, manage data entry and reporting requirements, and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to navigate complex client situations, apply program guidelines appropriately, adapt to changing priorities, and work independently while maintaining accountability and ethical standards.

The position requires sustained attention to detail, accurate documentation, and the ability to manage competing deadlines. Interactions may involve sensitive or confidential information, requiring discretion and adherence to agency policies and professional standards. Employee must be able to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing program requirements, and maintain a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by this employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is usually seated, standing, or walking at will in a typical office setting. Very limited physical effort is required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Successful candidate must submit to a pre-employment drug screening, limited criminal history check, driver check and National Sex Offender Registry check, SAM and OIG exclusion screenings. Must pass and maintain compliance with the agency’s background check policy.
  • Proof of educational credentials is required at employment.
  • Valid driver's license and a dependable vehicle required.
  • Must meet the Agency’s required car insurance coverage level at employment and maintain it throughout the duration of employment (Liability Coverage: $100,000/$300,000/$100,000).
  • Password protected internet access of good quality to perform the essential duties.
  • This position has a 90-day probationary period.
