Farmers Market Assistant (Pathway to Market Manager)

Position Overview & Growth Opportunity
The Farmers Market Assistant is a hands-on role for someone interested in learning all aspects of farmers market operations while working closely with the Market Manager. This position is designed as a training and mentorship opportunity, with a clear pathway to advance into the Market Manager role within approximately one year, based on performance and market needs. We are asking for a multi-year commitment.

Market Assistant Hours:

In Season (May-October): 8 hours on Saturdays (on site), 4–6 hours during the week Off Season (November-April: 12 hours per week

Duties

· In Season - Assist the Market Manager with market-related tasks, including:

o Setting up and tearing down the market on Saturdays (must be able to lift 30-40 lbs)

o Assisting customers at the Information Booth

o Creating and supporting market special events

o Learning all aspects of market operations so they can step in if the Market Manager is absent

o Meeting regularly with the Market Manager and attend monthly Board meetings

o Help design, implement, and staff the Power of Produce Kids Program Booth, which provides a fun opportunity for children to engage in the local food system through conversations, educational games and demonstrations, and exposure to new fruits and vegetables. Train and support volunteers at the booth

· Year round – Lead out in fundraising and seeking sponsorships. Recruit volunteers.

Assist accountant in budget and financial reporting to board.

Look for and write grant requests. Provide end of year reports as required.

Experience
No previous farmers market experience is necessary—just a willingness to jump in, learn, and grow with the market. Previous experience in fundraising is preferred.

NOTE:

The Market Manager position is 20–29.5 hours per week and includes responsibility for overall market operations, planning, vendor coordination, community engagement, publicity, reporting, and financial oversight.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
