Joseph, Greenwald & Laake, P.A., a 40+ lawyer Maryland law firm minutes from the Beltway, seeks a legal professional with a strong data analysis background, education or experience to join its False Claims Act (whistleblower) practice immediately.

The Legal Data Analyst position could be filled by a paralegal, current law student or barred attorney with the requisite data analysis background. A bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field, is strongly preferred, and proven experience in data analysis is required.

This position is responsible for collecting and interpreting data, analyzing results, and providing actionable insights to drive informed decision-making relating to whistleblower cases. You will work closely with JGL attorneys as a critical member of the legal team, and you will assist in representing whistleblowers in investigations and litigation nationwide.

While not required, strong preference is given to those candidates with experience and/or education with False Claims Act or other whistleblower claims. This is a unique opportunity to merge data analysis with legal work, and to meaningfully contribute to a growing national practice.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the FCA department in billable, case-related tasks as assigned;
  • Identify data relevant to FCA matters assigned;
  • Mine, collect, clean, organize and analyze data from available sources such as CMS data, claims data, etc.;
  • Analyze datasets to identify patterns, outliers, or key metrics;
  • Use statistical tools to interpret datasets;
  • Prepare reports and visual summaries to assigning attorneys that effectively communicate the data, trends, patterns and predictions using the relevant data;
  • Submit and explain your results and interpretation to assigning attorneys;
  • Look for and report trends, patterns or anomalies in the data related to a theory or claim;
  • Assist in legal claim analysis and evaluation;
  • Advise legal team(s) on legal claims and data collection strategies in document review and discovery process;
  • Perform internet and other research on potential FCA defendants, net worth and assets;
  • Provide substantive, legal research, analysis and writing to support FCA cases;
  • Interface with clients for data-driven information-gathering and legal strategy purposes;
  • Perform document review and research, , to build legal claims analysis for FCA cases;
  • Collaborate with expert witnesses/external stakeholders on technical/data evidence;
  • Assist JGL attorneys create damages estimates and models for FCA cases;
  • Potential, limited travel for critical client and/or government meetings; and
  • Perform legal research, writing, analysis, investigative, discovery and trial support during FCA cases in litigation.

Requirements

  • Current law student at an accredited S. law school;
  • Interest, education or experience in False Claims Act work;
  • Must be proficient in spreadsheets and databases like, Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field;
  • Proven experience in data analysis or related roles;
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages (g., SQL, Python, R, etc.);
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail;
  • Proficiency in legal research (Lexis/Westlaw), analysis and writing;
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment; and
  • Billable requirement in the range of 1250-1400 hours per
