Feed Mill Operator, Class A CDL Driver

Job Brief:

Feed mill operators are responsible for assisting in the management of the mill and feed crews, in the process of storing, mixing and delivering of feed for cattle, hogs or poultry.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include, but not limited to:

  • Ensure the mill is kept clean including the grounds surrounding the mill
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly routine preventative maintenance tasks including greasing bearings, checking gear boxes, inspection/tightening of belts, etc. is conducted
  • Assist in repair and maintenance projects with the maintenance staff
  • Assist in maximizing the efficiency of the mill
  • Filling micro ingredient boxes and clean out ingredient bins as needed
  • Work with employees to identify and addressing ingredient flow issues
  • Bag complete feeds
  • Load complete feeds orders on to trucks
  • Ensure that company safety practices are adhered to
  • Receive ingredients into the mill - both bulk and bagged
  • Conduct grading of ingredients received
  • Comply with safety regulations. Assesses job hazards independently and executes Lockout/ Tagout and other safety permits while working in confined spaces
  • Recognize conditions that could lead to equipment breakdowns.
  • Collaborates with different levels of employees in various facility departments through face-to-face, telephone, email, and radio communications.
  • Escalate technical, procedural, and personnel-related issues to the direct lead or supervisor as necessary.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of maintenance and production areas where maintenance work occurs.
  • Drives truck to deliver feed goods to customers.
  • Load feed trucks per customer orders and follow established procedures to meet FDA Good Manufacturing Practices, Feed Quality, Assurance, and feed plant requirements.
  • Take all necessary precautions to prevent contamination of feed products and deliver product to the correct location/bin.
  • Inspect feed products while loading and unloading and immediately notify direct supervisor of any quality related situations.
  • Communicate and coordinate feed deliveries with the appropriate personnel to maximize plant and truck utilization and efficiencies while meeting customer requirements.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of delivery vehicle per DOT and Company requirements.
  • Promptly report any equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Comply with DOT, FDA, OSHA and company safety programs, policies, regulations and rules.
  • Drive and operate equipment in a manner so as not to harm the delivery vehicle, yourself, fellow workers, customers, customer’s property and the general public.
  • Accurately complete and maintain records (Bulk Truck Delivery Records, Feed Production Records, DOT logs, Vehicle Inspection Reports, Fuel Tickets, maps, and other mill documents) in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and perform light maintenance of assigned delivery truck inside and out and exhibit an appropriate personal appearance to promote a positive and quality company image
  • Complete training and attend meetings/workshops/seminars/continuing education appropriate to the position, as assigned and approved by direct supervisor.
  • Properly complete the timesheet daily and submit your completed timecard for approval on the last day worked of each workweek.
  • Resolve all timecard, attestation, and payroll-related matters and complete the attestation on the last day worked of each workweek.
  • Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per CVE Corcoran, LLC attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

· Mechanical aptitude

· Basic electrical troubleshooting and repair

· Experience with power, electric tools, and hand tools

· Building maintenance

· Ability to read schematics and technical drawings

Physical Requirements:

· Continuously lift/move/push/pull objects weighing up to and including 55 pounds; regularly lift/move/push/pull objects weighing up to and including 75 pounds.

· Frequently climbs ladders; occasionally works at heights of 100 feet.

· Vision sufficient to safely perform the essential job tasks

· In a normal work day, the employee may be required to sit 50% of the time, stand 30% of the time, and walk 20% of the time.

· Employee must be able to frequently bend, squat, kneel, and occasionally climb/balance, push/pull, and lift from high/low position.

· Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (hard hat, safety glasses and safety toed shoes, etc.)

Education/Experience Requirements:

· High School diploma (GED accepted)

· Class A CDL

Additional Requirements:

· Maintain current license that apply to the position.

· Clean driving record with all applicable endorsements required.

· Available to work extended hours as needed.

· Analytical skills and mechanical problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision.

· Detailed oriented with the ability to follow a checklist and maintain accurate work order documentation.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and to clearly communicate information received in both written and verbal forms.

· Ability to use shop math (add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals) and interpret basic measuring equipment.

Note: Feed Mill Manager retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of this position at any time.

Work inside an enclosed vehicle while driving and outdoors while loading and unloading. Regularly exposed to all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and materials used in a grain elevator/feed mill which may include chemicals/ingredients. Often work while listening to loud or distracting sounds and noise levels.
