Part Time Assistant Shelter Manager: No-kill, Cage-free, Cat-only Shelter

Part-time Position of 20 hours/week, with some flexibility depending on need, in Flint Hill, VA A few hours will be required on weekends; you can choose Saturday or Sunday.

Phone/email monitoring, posting social media, record keeping, scheduling vet appointments.

You will help us with public-facing operations, such as returning phone calls and emails, inputting data into our online software, assisting with adoptions (reading applications, responding to them, scheduling shelter visits), preparing and posting daily social media, scheduling vet visits, supporting other daily shelter operations as needed.

No medical or retirement benefits provided.

Administrative functions:

Basic computer skills

Willingness to learn our rescue software and entering data

Assist manager with new cat intake paperwork

Daily documentation of cat behavior/health/food intake/etc

Public Interaction:

Interact with, supervise, and answer questions from shelter visitors

Assist with community outreach/fundraising events 2-4 times per year (for example, taking a shift at a booth, helping prepare handouts and organize materials)

General Expectations/Skill Sets

Ability to interact with cats in a calm, non-threatening, non-fearful manner

Ability to accurately read signs of emotional or physical distress in cats and react appropriately

Ability to multitask in a busy environment

Ability to remain calm in stressful or crisis situations

Ability to remain calm around injured or ill animals, and not be distressed by blood or other discharges that may be present in these situations.

Ability to communicate well with shelter manager, volunteers and public

Must be customer service oriented and very friendly

Ability to ask for and take direction

Exceptional reliability and flexibility as our cats lives can depend on it

Ability to work flexible schedule including one weekend day, and some holidays (the cats need care 365 days of the year) and to cover for shelter manager.

Desired Qualifications:

Previous experience in animal care or related fields

Passion for work with animals

Personal experience caring for your own animals, particularly cats

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have reliable transportation
