About the Center for China Analysis

The Center for China Analysis (CCA) is part of the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI), a think- and do- tank with a policy-solving mandate that tackles major policy challenges confronting the Asia-Pacific in security and diplomacy; trade, investment, and innovation; climate and energy; and society, technology, and public health.

Established in 2022, CCA is committed to decoding China's complexities with an "inside-out" approach by offering evidence-based, independent, and policy-relevant analyses with a balanced, holistic, and human-centered focus, covering Chinese domestic politics; economy and technology; foreign policy and national security; climate, energy and the environment; society, public health, and education.

Summary

CCA is looking for a Fellow for a full-time position. The Fellow will report to and work closely with the CCA Co-Founder and Managing Director.

Responsibilities

Management:

  • Build, lead, and direct a team focused on tracking and analyzing relevant economic, geopolitical, and policy developments in China-Southeast Asia relations.
  • Contribute to center wide initiatives and strategic thinking, and engage in the design, goal setting, and implementation of policy projects with a Southeast Asia focus.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage local, regional, and global audiences to ensure effective publicization and impact of the program’s work.
  • Liaise and coordinate with other CCA senior fellows, fellows, and affiliated researchers across CCA’s five pillars as well as colleagues across ASPI and the Asia Society.
  • Cultivate emerging researchers on China–Southeast Asia relations.

Product development:

  • Write and produce analytical reports, articles, and innovative products, building a sustained pipeline of research and commentary on China–Southeast Asia relations for policymakers and strategic audiences.
  • Initiate, develop, and produce other public-facing products on China-Southeast Asia engagement, including long-form analysis, commentary series, interactive websites, video series, and newsletters.
  • Conceive, organize, and convene high-level convenings, including an annual China–Southeast Asia forum in the region bringing together policymakers, business leaders, and scholars, alongside panels, briefings, and discussions.
  • Partner with regional and global institutions on joint projects, publications, and data-driven initiatives.
  • Undertake media interviews and publish op-eds in prominent national, regional, and international news publications.

Fundraising:

  • Work with fundraising team to cultivate new and existing donors, write concept notes for potential projects, explore new fundraising possibilities and secure new funding for the program’s products and projects.
  • Leverage, expand and engage CCA’s expert networks both for fundraising purposes but also to promote the work of the program and CCA as a whole.
  • Build and strengthen institutional networks and relationships with other stakeholders, individuals and organizations that work on China-Southeast Asia relations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, or related field required.
  • At least 7-9 years of progressively responsible experience across policy research, international development, and/or consulting.
  • Substantive expertise in areas relevant to China–Southeast Asia relations, such as trade and investment, security and geopolitics, energy transition and sustainability, and industrial upgrading and supply chains.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate timely, policy-relevant analysis and to translate research into products that inform decision makers and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of Southeast Asian country contexts, with experience engaging local networks and stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a track record of publishing in recognized outlets and presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to convene stakeholders and work across academia, think tanks, international organizations, and the private sector to deliver actionable policy analysis.
  • Experience in program design, fundraising, and organizational management, with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Capacity to build trust and convene diverse perspectives across China, Southeast Asia, and the international community in a neutral, policy-focused setting.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin required; knowledge of a Southeast Asian language strongly preferred.
  • Motivated, responsible, and collaborative team player with capacity to build and lead new initiatives.
