Felony Paralegal

Summary

The Island County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking a full-time paralegal to join our Criminal Division. Our team of prosecutors and paralegals are dedicated to holding criminals accountable, while ensuring the fundamental guarantees of due process and justice are fulfilled in every case. We strive to set the standard for the highest level of professionalism and ethics for the practice of law in Island County.

The employee in this position will provide paralegal support for the felony caseload. A desire to learn and to serve our community in the administration of justice is essential for any applicant. Those with experience or training in the criminal justice field are preferred. The well-qualified candidate will have significant history working in misdemeanor and/or felony criminal proceedings. Strong written and oral communication skills are a must. Also important is the ability to keep perspective, humility, and humor in a sometimes intense working environment.

May be hired at pay grade 8, 9, or 10. Salary depends upon qualifications:
Hourly pay:
Grade 8: $22.38
Grade 9: $24.30
Grade 10: $26.22

Job Duties

  • Provide paralegal support to the Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys of the Felony Division.
  • Prepare charging documents and other court documents. File case documents with court and provide to defense when necessary.
  • Process police reports and prepare discovery to be provided to defense.
  • Maintain case files in online case management system.
  • Prepare trial materials.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with professionals, victims, parties, and colleagues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, misdemeanor and/or felony cases.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, proper format for legal pleadings and briefs, as well as District Court and Superior Court rules and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive material.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong user level computer skills.

Education, Experience & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Paralegal Certificate, Professional Legal Secretary (PLS), or equivalent work experience.
