- Patient care: Provide comprehensive care to women, including routine check-ups, family planning, and managing pregnancy from prenatal to postnatal periods.
Common duties
- Performing Pap smears, pelvic exams, and breast exams.
- Conducting prenatal monitoring and ultrasounds.
- Prescribing appropriate medications.
- Managing high-risk pregnancies and complications.
- Performing minor office procedures like colposcopies and biopsies.
- Providing primary and preventive healthcare to women.
- Staying up-to-date with the latest medical research and developments.
- Diagnosis and treatment: Detect, treat, and monitor diseases and conditions affecting the female reproductive system. This includes issues like sexually transmitted infections, hormone imbalances, and pelvic pain.
- Surgical procedures: Perform surgeries ranging from minor procedures like biopsies and laparoscopies to more complex operations like hysterectomies or caesarean sections.
- Education and counseling: Advise patients on women's health, disease prevention, and the importance of treatment plans and medications.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for patients.
- Collaboration: Work with other healthcare professionals, such as midwives, nurses, and other specialists, to ensure the best patient outcomes.
