Fiber Drop Technician

Position Summary

The Fiber Drop Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic drop lines from the main distribution network to residential and commercial customer locations. This role ensures high-quality connectivity, proper signal strength, and customer satisfaction through safe and efficient work practices.

Key Responsibilities

· Install and maintain fiber optic cables and related equipment for residential and commercial customers.

· Execute underground fiber drop burials from the distribution point to the customer premises using specialized equipment (e.g., vibratory plows, trenchers, or bore tools) while ensuring proper depth and adherence to local utility codes.

· Test and troubleshoot fiber optic networks to ensure optimal performance.

· Install and splice distribution splitters.

· Splice fiber service drops.

· Follow safety procedures and guidelines during installation and maintenance work.

· Perform emergency restoration of services using test equipment, splicing machines, and excavating equipment.

· Perform site surveys to determine the best installation locations for equipment and buried service wire.

· Use specialized tools to splice fiber optic cables and ensure proper connectivity.

· Perform installation and repair of individual FTTH service.

· Drive revenue by participating in the company sales program.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

· Two years experience in fiber industry optic installation, splicing, or telecommunications

  • Knowledge of aerial and underground cable installation practices
  • Ability to read technical diagrams and maps
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and climb ladders or utility poles
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Working Conditions

· Field-based role covering rural service areas

· Exposure to varying terrain and weather conditions

· Occasional overtime, weekends, overnight stays or on-call work may be required

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
