Fiber Optic Technician

General Purpose:

To provide installation, measurement, testing, fault diagnosis, and repair of the passive components of contracted Fibre Optic Networks for customers.

Principal Duties:

• Perform Fibre Optic cable installations as directed, following documented FOSS internal working practices as guidelines.
• Conduct termination and splicing of Fibre Optic cables as specified in FOSS internal practice documentation.
• Perform both pre- and post-installation tests, diagnosing and rectifying any issues with installed Fibre Optic cables.
• Document all test results obtained, ensuring completion of all tests as outlined in the agreed Sales quotation.
• Record any additional work completed, securing customer sign-off as a variation to the original contract.
• Obtain customer sign-off for all completed work within target times and with minimal costs.

Mandatory Skills:

• Strong knowledge of Fibre Optic working practices and applications.
• Proficiency in splicing, terminating, and dressing various types of Fibre Optic cables and connectors.
• Ability to conduct Drum tests, Post Installation testing, and End-to-End testing using an OTDR.
• Skilled in testing installed Fibre Optic cables using a light source and power meter.
• Thorough understanding of test theory and additional testing capabilities (e.g., Fibre Characterisation).
• Knowledge of Structured Cabling Systems and their role in data communications.
• Good command of spoken and written English.
• Valid UAE driving license.
